Everyone
has ideas. But how many of these ideas ever become reality?
This
is a fun, fast-moving crash course on creativity in which you will
discover both hi-tech and low-tech ways to turn your ideas into
something real. I describe the processes I use when developing my
own ideas into puppet productions and I give away all my trade secrets!
With the help of volunteers from the audience, I give a series of
humorous demonstrations that prove the all-important principle: a few simple
'tools' and tips can make the difference between a flop and something
really professional! The aim of the lecture is to inspire and equip
both pupils and staff to achieve more impressive results from their
ideas. |

Demonstrations
include:
- Mind-mapping
- Developing
a story idea
- What
a difference lighting & sound make!
- Importance
of music in film & theatre
- Use
of music to create different moods
- Music
as inspiration
- Use
of sound effects (very entertaining!)
- Digital
manipulation of sound (the hi-tech bit!)
- Recording
sound & music in a studio (really cool computer demos!)
- How
theatre lighting works
- Colours
& image projection
- Ultra-violet
special effects & blacklight puppetry

Question & Answer sessions can be included and I don't mind extending the talk to accomodate more of this if you wish. PLEASE NOTE: I
can only do this lecture in conjunction with a show because of the equipment required. The best format
would be a show or shows in the morning then the lecture in the
afternoon. The morning show(s) could be for everyone, not just those
attending the lecture. |

How
I Make My Puppets
45 minute classroom talk/demonstration |

Following
a show, I can come into the classroom for a thorough question
and answer session about how I created the show. I bring a selection
of tools and materials that I use to create my puppets and give
a simple demonstration of my making techniques. Meanwhile, children
have the chance to pass round the puppets from the show and take
a look at my original designs and sketchbooks.
I explain all the
elements that contribute to putting on a puppet show and if appropriate, I can talk about how I write a story and a script
as well. Teachers can often learn some useful tips in this session
which can later be used to help children make their own puppets
or put on a show.
This talk/demonstration is the ideal way to start
an enterprise project and if required, I can talk extensively about
running your own business and marketing a product. This is a flexible
session which can be tailored to suit any age-group. |

used ideas you gave us to create their own puppets and puppet
show. Dunbog Primary School, Fife |
