• Black-out: The hall/room must be completely dark. All windows must be blacked-out using cardboard, black sugar paper or thick curtains. (Black-out advice available!)

  • Height: Minimum ceiling height of 242cm (8').

  • Area: The room needs to be cleared. Minimum performing area is 4.5m wide by 2.5m deep. There should be a further 2.5m between performing area and audience. (Total depth: 5m) Ample floor space needed to erect 2 lighting stands, 1 near each end of the front row. I tend not to use a stage in schools.

  • Equipment: I use my own sound system & lighting. Where available, dimmable house lighting is helpful (fade to black before show). Non-dimmable lights should be left off.

  • Power: 2 x 13A power points.

  • Get in: 2 hours 30 mins (theatres), 2 hours minimum (schools).

  • Get out: 1 hour 30 mins.

  • Access: There is a great deal of heavy equipment involved so I need to get the van as close as possible. Direct access preferred via fire exit/stage door (especially if ramped).

  • Audience Size: Recommended max: 120. Absolute max: 150. (Consider 2 performances.)

  • Introduction: I require a member of staff to introduce the show. I need to speak to this person before the audience comes in. Please obtain my clearance before opening house.
If you're not sure about any of the above please phone me for advice on 0845 458 9779 or 07740 980481. There are usually ways round technical problems and black-out problems. I can help you find a working solution!

See also Booking Terms and Conditions which are part of our Agreement once a booking is made.
  • Multiple Performances for Schools: Shows last 35-45 minutes plus time to meet a few of the puppets afterwards. Allow 1 hour. If you have a group of more than 120, consider having 2 performances. Extra performances offer great value at schools prices. There is no minimum audience size.
  • Age-suitability: Shows are broadly suitable for ages 4-11. Stories are aimed more at Nursery to P4 but the whole experience has proven very valuable for upper school too, especially when followed by a Q&A session. The show is in the DARK! Nurseries should prepare children for this in advance. Most nursery audiences include 3 year-olds with no problems - please call to discuss if you’re not sure.
  • Curriculum for Excellence: Puppetry is a uniquely cross-curricular activity which helps children of all ages become successful learners, responsible citizens, effective contributors and confident individuals. See the workshops page or phone to discuss how these objectives are met through the various workshop elements. You are encouraged to book a show along with your workshop as this really inspires the children towards excellence.
